Artemesia Gentileschi

So good to see a television programme about a woman artist.  Last week, Michael Palin presented a programme about Artemesia Gentileschi which was very interesting and it is great to see more work by women artists being shown to the public and not hidden away in the basements of museums and galleries.

For a while I was a tutor on an Access Course and one of the subjects we discussed was self-portraits.   There were far more self-portraits by men than women and Laura Knight was an artist who was very famous in her day, but whose work seemed to disappear after her death in 1970,  It was difficult to find anything written about her at all but happily, it seems she is now being rediscovered. She is a very interesting and gifted artist.  This painting by her below is in the National Portrait Gallery.
